Compounding issues around the world have led to over 65 million people displaced abroad or within their own borders – the most ever recorded by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR). About half of the world’s refugee population is under the age of 18.

In an attempt to inform, educate and make the public aware of the refugee crisis, Ploughshares Calgary Society is hosting a conference on “Ethical Responses to Refugee Needs” on Saturday, September 21, 2019, on the International Day of Peace in collaboration with Calgary Catholic Immigration Society, Mennonite Central Committee and African Community Association Calgary. The event will feature local experts in immigration who will speak on various key issues around refugees, sponsorship, immigration processes, resettlement, integration, education, employment, language, learning, and systemic barriers.
