“Active Hope is waking up to the beauty of life on whose behalf we can act. We belong to this world”
We are pleased to present an evening session influenced by the work of Joanna Macy, a systems thinker, a deep ecologist, and a practicing Buddhist. Hers has been a wise voice of calm and guidance, over five decades of activism, first in the area of nuclear disarmament and later encompassing fields of social justice and the environment. Her teachings have helped groups around the world build resilience as they actively work for positive change, transforming despair and apathy into constructive collaborative action. During this session we will hear Joanna share an ancient Buddhist prophecy, its influence on her, and how it has particular relevance to us today. We will hear Joanna Macy’s teachings on the Work that Reconnects, including her map for the spiral journey, from grounding in gratitude through to action for the healing of our world. We will have an opportunity to respond to four key questions, using an exercise put forth by Joanna Macy in many of her workshops throughout the world. This session is a true “call to action” for each of us, providing practical strategies to build our resilience and strengthen our hearts as we go forth to make a contribution to our human society and to the total web of life.
“Of all the dangers we face, from climate chaos to nuclear war, none is so great as the deadening of our response.”
